Farming in the Southwest means we have to contend with animals near and around the growing areas. Food safety requirements demand that risks of animal intrusion into fields must be addressed, assessed, and mitigated to minimize product contamination. Ag Partners understands these risks and knows that the field mouse, ground squirrel, or rabbit is not the only visitor to produce fields. In addition, birds, coyotes, deer, fox, skunk, raccoon, and javelina also make their way into our growing areas. WHAT'S THE ISSUE?

A majority of fresh vegetables available to the winter market are grown right here in our own backyard. Vast expanses of fertile soils bring forth not only rich, healthy leafy greens, but also subsequent threats from various animals native to our region. And while these animals are certainly to be enjoyed and appreciated as part of the local landscape, they pose tremendous threats to the farm fields that border hundreds of miles of wild fauna.

Since the 2006 infection in California, animal control and efforts to restrict them from growing areas has been on the mind of all leafy green growers. While animal contamination presents potential losses to life through sickness and fatality, it also presents enormous economical losses to the market and grower alike. The fresh vegetable industry expects to harvest and place into market healthy, non-infected produce and thus, animal control measures is not optional! We understand the needs of the farmer and grower and are aware they need all the help they can get!

At Ag Partners, we have specialized animal control services to help keep produce safe. While it is one thing to respond to immediate, in/near ranch threats, we also uphold the value and necessity to provide long-term, effective, broad-based solutions to controlling intrusion into growing areas. We take this approach because too many times, dealing with animals already in the growing areas is a reactionary approach that means there is already a potential compromise to crops! This makes for anxiety and certain fear!
